Penguin? – Sumikko gurashi

Remember Shirokuma? From my post here. Well I finally got to make one of Shirokuma’s friend, called Penguin? If you remembered the guide in the previous post it’ll help explain some of the cute characters that I’m making here. I’m in the process of making the rest of the characters, however, depending on how lazy I am, it may be a while. So, if you’re not lazy like me, if you do finish the whole lot of characters from sumikko gurashi – SanX, I would love to see your finished project!

Not much happening in my neck of the woods. After a nice long break for the holidays, I’m excited to be back at work. The time at home has been driving me crazy. I’ve been easily irritated at anything that happens. So I’m really happy to be back at work, finally back to doing something to keep my mind busy. I’ve been thinking, maybe I’ll start focusing more on one specific subject, but I get so bored if I do one thing for too long. So bare with me as I keep busy with different posts of whatnots in life. I will definitely keep posting patterns at least once a week, maybe every Friday so that we have something to do over the weekend if you’re ever bored like me!

I’ve updated the pattern from the original from Shirokuma. There may be mistakes on the pattern, and if you find any, please let me know by commenting below so I can correct it. I usually write the pattern down as I make them, however, I may have forgot some terms or rows along the way.

You can purchase the whole Sumikko Gurashi characters in my store!

With lime or light green color:

Row 1: 6 SC in MC (6)
Row 2: Inc around (12)
Rows 3-4: SC around (12)
Row 5: Dec around (6)

Stuff arms. Do not over stuff, will need to pinch top closed to sew together.

FO, leave tail for sewing onto body

Feet – Make 2

With yellow or light yellow color:

Round 1: 5 SC in MC (5)
Round 2: Inc around (10)
Round 3: SC, inc – repeat around (15)

Flatten the piece.

Round 4: Sc across top of both sides pinched together (6 or 8? I forgot how many I made..sorry!) then chain 2, sc in the next stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch, 3x hdc in the next stitch, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch, chain 2, sc in the same stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch.

Fasten off and weave the yarn to the bottom center of the feet. Leave a long end for sewing onto body.

Round 1: 6 SC in MC (6)
Round 2: Inc around (12)

FO, leave tail for sewing onto head.

Embroider eyes into head piece around rows 17-19. Place the mouth between the eyes in the row right under the eyes  – fold mouth piece in half and sew onto the middle of the head.

Create a half oval felt for the stomach and glue/sew onto the body towards the very bottom. Place feet at the very ends of the felt and sew into place.

For the arms, sew them right above the corners of the felt.If you want to move the arms closer, you should make the felt piece of the body smaller.

Make sure to shape your body. Do NOT be afraid of squeezing the shit out of it to make it into a lovely bean shape. That’s what makes and give amigurumi’s their cuteness!

Soon all of the friends will be able to share their corner together.

Any questions? Feel free to comment below. Don’t wait! Make one today!

Much love, xo.
